The Gardener at Your Service
Freelancing was never in my mind before but the moment I realized that this is what I want, I dedicated my time to online and offline training, self-study and self-improvement. When the Department of Information and Communication Technology posted on their Facebook page that they are looking for trainees for their DigitalJobsPH program, I immediately signed up their online application form and luckily after the screening process I was accepted together with the 24 other applicants out of the 200 who tried.
Currently, I am assigned to a Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME) who manufactures and sells fruit-flavored yogurts and other dairy products. Part of our task is to create Social Media accounts and its contents to be posted during our 21-day campaign to establish an online presence of their business. I also develop the E-commerce website including its content using Wordpress and WooCommerce. Our greatest challenge doesn't end in just developing a webpage and social media accounts but also how to develop strategies to help the client generate sales.
I’ve been doing freelancing for a year now as Social Media Manager for a local resort owned by my cousin, my job is to create contents for the page, do the online marketing, answer guest inquiries and process bookings. My cousin/client count on me sometimes on some crucial decision making like should we markdown our entrance fee, creating new rules for the safety of our guest or offering new service. I believe that my job has contributed to her business establishment to be known to the public, and it gives a fulfilling feeling because I was able to help her.
The Four Marketing Pillars
Lead The Way
When my cousin was still in the process of constructing the swimming pool of her resort, I approached her and gave her a proposal on how we can emerge from her soon-to-be competitors, because at that time, two other resorts in the area were already operating. I made sure that we will lead the way and people will patronize hers, I created her social media account before the opening date and establish online presence ahead of time. Thus, it was a success.
Take Control
If you want to be powerful, you must be ready to make decisions for others. As a freelancer we don’t just sit here in front of the computer and wait for our clients to tell us what to do, we have to have the initiative to decide and develop our strategies to help our client.
Pursue Specific Goals
I always focus on a specific outcome, I stay focused until I reach the finish line.
Voice My Opinions of Authority
I always invest time, money and effort on training whether it’s paid or free, online or offline, either it’s related to my field of expertise or passion or not, because I always believe in the “10,000 hour rule”, if you wanted to become an expert you need to spend time to become an expert, and only experts have the voice of authority in their respective field. That’s why I always find time to invest in establishing a reputation as a confident, expert with the experience to guide others someday.
